Biography

Hailed as a “superb mezzo” (Madalena’s Memos, 2017) and “impressively imperious” (The Wagner Journal, 2024), Lorraine Helvick is quickly making a name for herself in the dramatic and verismo repertoire specializing in the works of Strauss, Verdi, and Wagner. Ms. Helvick has captivated audiences across Switzerland, Czechia, England, Ireland, Wales, France, and Canada. She ended the 2025 season singing alongside baritone, George Gagnidze and began 2026 earning a finalist spot in the Venice Opera/BGG Music/NY Music Productions Vocal Competition. Next season, she will debut Herodiade in Strauss’ masterwork, Salome, with the International Opera Institute and premiere her one-woman show, “Operatic.”

In the role of Fricka, we had the powerful Lorraine Helvick who brought all her jealousy of Wotan's other women to bear upon her wish to destroy Siegmund. (...) Her believability in the role matched her vocal gifts.
